Young Yash Dhull fights back to reclaim form after successful heart surgery

Yash Dhull grabbed eyeballs after scoring 229 runs in four matches in the Under 19 World Cup 2022. He played a major role in the Indian U19 team’s title win as he notched up a ton against Australia in the semi-final. Moreover, his prowess was highlighted during his Ranji debut for Delhi in 2021-22. Playing his debut game, he struck twin centuries and selectors were already considering his prospects.
The right-handed batter, who became Delhi’s highest run-getter in the 2022-23 season, scored 1199 runs at an average of 47.96, had his heart putting his beat on hold. The 21-year-old was at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and got detected with a hole in his heart after the medical team suggested a proper vetting. Now that the batter is back on the field after surgery, the commentators picked rustiness in his batting in the ongoing Delhi Premier League.

Dhull was the captain of Central Delhi Kings and stepped down from the position. He later played as an Impact Player and changed batting position before opting for a rest in the fifth fixture of the T20 league. Moreover, he has accrued just 93 runs at an average of under 20 and a strike rate of 113.41, playing five games in the league. While the youngster vowed to give his 100 percent, his father revealed that the hole in his heart was since his son’s birth.
“Kuch cheeze hui hai past mai… mai recover karke aaya hu. Thoda time lag raha hai but mai positive hu aur apne game ke liye 100% duga (certain things have happened in the past, and I have returned after a recovery. It’s taking time but I am positive and will give 100% for my game)," said Dhull as quoted by News18.
“It wasn’t anything serious. The hole in the heart was a condition from birth and the National Cricket Academy team advised a minor surgical procedure. He underwent that in Delhi only and the BCCI continued to keep a check on him during the period," said Dhull’s father.
