Fresh reports have emerged of late which in relation to Zaheer Khan being in talks with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the role of a mentor in the esteemed Indian Premier League (IPL).

With the departure of Gautam Gambhir following of the 2023 edition as well as Morne Morkel post the 2024 latest edition, the former veteran pacer might be on the brink of taking up two roles (mentor and bowling coach) at once, subject to the negotiations being actualized between the two parties.

As per the same reports, the fact pertaining to Zaheer being a liaison and a medium for thorough communication between players and the management is also mentioned. It is also reported that the owner of LSG, Indian entrepreneur Sanjiv Goenka, wants a person like Zaheer to be in charge of the unit, according to Cricbuzz.

Zaheer was once been appointed as a bowling consultant for specific overseas tours by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as well as represented the Mumbai Indians (MI) in a similar role post him calling a day from the IPL. In fact, after Gambhir came in to the Indian setup, speculations were rife regarding Gambhir's former Indian teammate being considered as the bowling coach for the Men in Blue. However, that specific development didn't come to fruition, as the board soon opted for Morkel to fill in the role, on the obvious behest of Gambhir.

The Maharashtra-born was previously viewed as a potential bowling coach under Gambhir's new setup in the Indian team, specifically to mentor the young and upcoming pacers in and around the team - a role for which he is highly regarded. Even during his playing days, Zaheer was known for guiding and mentoring the young fast bowlers in the Indian team.

If Zaheer and LSG come up with an agreement, the erstwhile Indian great will have an opportunity of linking up with head coach, Justin Langer, as well as other hardened individuals which include Adam Voges, Lance Klusener, and Jonty Rhodes, to name a few.
