Legendary former India speedster Zaheer Khan was roped in by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their mentor last year. He will look to guide the Rishabh Pant-led side to the playoffs in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Lucknow started its journey in IPL 2022. They reached the playoffs in their first two seasons. However, last year, they finished at No. 7. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise has enjoyed impressive support at their home ground - Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow. However, in their clashes against Chennai Super Kings, fans wearing yellow jerseys have been in the majority.

The LSG mentor was asked in a press conference whether the trend of visiting teams, particularly Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, receiving strong support at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium would change in IPL 2025. Zaheer admitted that he won't be surprised to see yellow shirts dominating the crowd once again when Lucknow host CSK on April 14 due to the immense craze of MS Dhoni.

"As long as MS Dhoni is around, yellow will dominate all the stadiums. It should be like that. He is loved by everyone. As long as he is playing, it will be like that," Zaheer said.

Dhoni is set to return to action in IPL 2025 amid speculations surrounding his retirement. The Men in Yellow start their campaign on Sunday, March 23, as they take on arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

We have 24 players in the squad, and we know how to win matches: Zaheer Khan

The Super Giants have been hit with injuries, as Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, and Avesh Khan are set to miss the first few games of IPL 2025. However, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Mavi are reportedly training with the side and can come in as replacements if needed.

Zaheer asserted that the injury setbacks won't deter the spirits of the franchise as it looks to have a strong season under a new captain.

"When you talk about the IPL, you know that uncertainties like these can arise. LSG's support staff is working with the pacers accordingly, and we have plans in place for the season. We have 24 players in the squad, and we know how to win matches," Zaheer said.
