Zimbabwe Cricket announces launch of six-team T10 tournament

The Abu Dhabi T10 league has been a massive success since its introduction in 2017 and the format has attracted a lot of fans around the world. Zimbabwe Cricket looks eager to follow the same footsteps as they have announced their first privately-owned franchise league tournament in the T10 format.

Notably, the founding company of the Abu Dhabi T10 league, Mulk International is associated with Zimbabwe’s league, which is named Zim Afro T10. 

The tournament will start with six teams battling against each other and will be held in the month of March next year. The participating franchises, player auction dates, fixtures, and other details are expected to be announced soon in the coming days.

The league is expected to do a lot of wonders for the growth of cricket in the African nation as most of the other countries have launched their own franchise leagues already and they are paying dividends for them. 

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket’s chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani was delighted to announce the launch of the new league and noted the demands of the current cricketing world.  

"We are pleased to announce the introduction of Zimbabwe's own franchise-based T10 league, a powerful format that we believe is exactly what our changing, fast-paced world needs right now," Tavengwa Mukuhlani, ZC Chairman, said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. 

Zimbabwe’s progress in international cricket 

Zimbabwe recently produced a scintillating performance in the T20 World Cup 2022 and qualified for the Super 12 stages by beating the West Indies in the First Round of the tournament. Sikandar Raza’s amazing form combined with a promising bowling department led to a great start in the Super 12 stages as they managed to beat the 2009 T20 World Champions, Pakistan as well.  

They came very close to winning the Bangladesh encounter but couldn't and ended their T20 World Cup campaign with three points in five games. With South Africa and UAE recently launching their T20 franchise leagues, fans have always welcomed shorter formats and the Zim Afro T10 is expected to be a success too.
