Gujarat Titans (GT) may have taken away all headlines during the IPL 2022 season but Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) weren’t behind as KL Rahul saw his side make a huge presence during the season. The debutants have already made the playoffs twice and given a good account for themselves.
IPL 2023 in particular saw LSG play some amazing cricket. The team also made headlines for the in-famous Gautam Gambhir, Naveen Ul Haq, and Virat Kohli spat. That should not take away the fact that Lucknow Super Giants have beaten some of the most established teams in the league.
As we head into the IPL 2024 season, Lucknow Super Giants will be looking to finally realize their potential. The impending return of their talismanic skipper KL Rahul will also make this unit a very dangerous side.
IPL 2022 – Making the mark in fine style
KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi were the leading names that were snapped by Lucknow Super Giants. The team appointed KL Rahul as the skipper of the side ahead of their debut IPL season in 2022.
Cricket fans were surprised as Lucknow Super Giants played like seasoned veterans. In their very first season, Lucknow reached the playoffs and beat former winners Mumbai Indians twice. Their run to the finals was halted by RCB in the Eliminator game in front of a packed crowd in Kolkata.
Quinton de Kock’s 140 not out was the highest individual score for a batter that season. KL Rahul and De Kock added 210 unbeaten runs for the first wicket in the same. This was the best partnership by a pair during IPL 2022. KL Rahul was the top scorer with 616 runs while Avesh Khan was the lead wicket-taker with 18 wickets.
IPL 2023 – Injury and Controversy marred season
KL Rahul and Gautam Gambhir came into the IPL 2023 season wanting to prove to the fans that the first season wasn’t a lucky affair. For the second year in a row, Lucknow Super Giants reached the playoffs before losing to Mumbai Indians in Chennai.
In 2023, LSG shot to fame thanks to the fractious encounters with Royal Challengers Bangalore home and away. Injury to skipper KL Rahul at a crucial stage in the season didn’t help the side. Krunal Pandya took over the captaincy and did well till he faced a rejuvenated Mumbai Indians side in the playoff stages.
Lucknow Super Giants scored the highest total of the season when they hit 257/5 against Punjab Kings in Mohali. Australian star Marcus Stoinis with 408 runs was the leading scorer for LSG in IPL 2023. Ravi Bishnoi saw his stocks grow with 16 wickets during the season.

IPL 2024 – Can Lucknow Super Giants take the giant leap?

If they can show their full potential then they will see their names of the winners list.
