In a significant development, the popular fantasy gaming platform, Dream11, will replace Byju's as the new jersey sponsor of team India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the release of a tender for the team's new jersey sponsor on June 14.

Byju's had an optional deal with BCCI until November 2023. However, they decided to back out of the contract in March. India were devoid of a jersey sponsor since then. They also played in the World Test Championship final against Australia in England, earlier this month, without a jersey sponsor.

During the tenure of Byju's, BCCI earned around Rs 5.50 crore for every match in a bilateral series. This amount dropped to Rs 1.70 crore in games in ICC events due to the placement of the logo on the jersey.

BCCI’s statement released on June 14 had forbidden certain brand categories from participating in the process. While “Real Money Gaming” was on the list of categories that were prohibited, an exception was made for “Fantasy Sports Gaming”.

Dream11 will be seen on Team India jerseys starting from the Test series against the West Indies, the team’s first assignment in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr Roger Binny, BCCI President said, “I congratulate Dream11 and welcome them on board again. From being BCCI’s official sponsor to now being the lead sponsor, the BCCI-Dream11 partnership has grown from strength to strength. It is a direct testament to the trust, value, potential and growth that Indian Cricket offers. As we prepare to host the ICC World Cup later this year, enhancing fan experience is among our top priorities and I am confident that this partnership will help us elevate the fan engagement experience.”

Commenting on the partnership, Mr Harsh Jain, Co-Founder & CEO, Dream Sports said, “As a long-standing partner of BCCI and Team India, Dream11 is thrilled to take our partnership to the next level. At Dream11, we share our love for cricket with a billion Indian cricket fans, and it is a matter of pride and our privilege to become the lead sponsor for the National team. We look forward to continue supporting the Indian sports ecosystem.”

India to tour West Indies for two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is

Dream11 will most likely be seen on the Indian jersey during their upcoming tour to the West Indies. Rohit Sharma and Co. will face the hosts in a multi-format series consisting of two Test, three ODIs, and three T20Is. The first Test begins on July 12.
