Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3.
As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
Earlier, Pant was also fined for maintaining a slow over-rate against Chennai Super Kings in Vizag where they went on to win the match by 20 runs. Talking of their latest game, Pant and his men lost the match by a massive margin of 106 runs where the KKR veterans operated on another level. Narine set the tone of the game with his 85 off 39 while Andre Russell smashed 41 off 19 and U19 star Angkrish Raghuvanshi shone with 54 off 27. All of this led to KKR posting the second-highest total of IPL ever- 272 runs on the board.
Delhi never found themselves in the chase while regularly losing wickets early on. However, skipper Rishabh Pant again showed signs of comeback as he smashed 55 off 25 but it wasn't enough in front of a massive target. Tristan Stubbs also added 54 off 32 to assist DC's chase. Narine was rewarded as a player of the match for his solid 85 and also for taking one wicket in his quota of four overs. KKR now find themselves at the top of the points table with 6 points and an outstanding NRR of +2.51.
