ISPL T10 Day 8 Review: Tigers of Kolkata book semi-final spot, Falcon Risers Hyderabad bow out of tournament

Day 8- Match 1

Mumbai, March 13: Tigers of Kolkata scored 43 runs in the last two overs to beat Srinagar Ke Veer by 6 wickets and book their semi-final spot in the inaugural Indian Street Premier League T10 tennis ball cricket tournament at the Dadoji Kondadev stadium here on Wednesday.

Fardeen Kazi (26 runs of 6 balls) and Man-of-the-match Bhavesh Pawar (20 runs of 6 balls) hit the ball all around the park in the final two overs to ensure that Tiigers of Kolkata successful chased down a target of 110 runs and moved up to second spot in the overall standings.

Srinagar ke Veer, who had already qualified for the semi-finals, slipped to third position. Majhi Mumbai is the other team that has made it to the semi-finals.

With three of the four teams in action on the final day of the group stage, there was a lot to play for and Tiigers of Kolkata chose to bowl against Srinagar ke Veer in a must-win encounter.mThey then kept chipping away wickets are regular interval to keep Srinagar ke Veer’s scoring in check. However, a 22-ball 36 from Aishwary Surve and a swashbuckling 31 runs of just 9 balls from skipper Omkar Patil took the team over the 100-run mark and set Tiigers of Kolkata a target of 110 runs.

Knowing well that a victory would seal a semi-final sport for them, Tigers of Kolkata skipper Prathamesh Pawar promoted himself to the top of the order and scored a quick-fire 36 of 23 balls to set up the foundation of the chase. Left-hander Bhavesh Pawar then hit Pritam Bari for three consecutive sixes in the ninth over as Tiigers of Kolkata scored 27 runs and then Fardeen Kazi hit a six and two boundaries in the final over of Bhushan Gole to seal the victory.

Day 8- Match 2

Mumbai, 13th March 2024: Falcon Risers Hyderabad displayed fighting spirit but lost to Chennai Singhams by 13 runs in the last league match of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) T10 on Wednesday at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane here. With this defeat, Hyderabad bowed out of the tournament as they finished sixth in the points tally.

After electing to bowl first, Falcon Risers Hyderabad got off to a solid start as their pace bowler Vivek Mohanan castled Chennai Singhams’ Sanjay Kanojjiya (0) on duck with a tape ball on just second delivery of the match. However, in the very next over, Sagar Ali eased pressure off Chennai by hitting a six and a four on consecutive deliveries of Vicky Bhoir.

Sagar continued his swashbuckling form and smashed big hits to help his side reach 44/1 in four overs, following which Mohanan once again bowled a brilliant over with a tape ball and gave only one run in the fifth over of the match to keep Hyderabad’s run rate in check.

However, Chennai’s Ketan Mhatre shifted gears and smashed 13 runs in the sixth over, which included a six and a four, while in the next over, which was also a 50-50 over, Mhatre smashed a six on the first ball, but Hyderabad’s pacer Vishwajit Thakur made a comeback by dismissing Mhatre (27) on the last ball of the over and also restricting the opposition from completing the challenge of scoring minimum 16 runs in the over as Chennai were 67/2 after seven overs.

Moreover, Falcon Risers Hyderabad shifted momentum in their favour by picking quick wickets as Irfan Patel removed Bablu Patil (1) and Chennai skipper Sumeet Dhekale (1) on consecutive deliveries, while Anurag Sarshar dismissed well-set batter Sagar Ali (44) on the first ball of the penultimate over.
Nevertheless, Dilip Binjwa hit unbeaten 17 runs of just eight balls, including a six and a four, to help Chennai Singhams reach 93/6 in the allotted 10 overs.

With net run rate coming into the equation, Falcon Risers Hyderabad needed to chase a 94-run in 9.4 overs. However, the team had a horrible start as they were reduced to 6/2 in in two overs as Vivek Mohanan (1) and Jagat Sarkar (0) were dismissed in the second over by Rajdeep Jadeja.

Also, Hyderabad’s captain Krishna Satpute (15) lost his wicket after smacking two maximums in the fourth over to add to the team’s woes as they struggled to find runs and were reeling at 33/3 after five overs. Hyderabad’s misery continued in the sixth over, in which they lost Vishwajit Thakur (3) and Shreyas Kadam (0) on consecutive deliveries by Binjwa.

However, Varun Kumar and Prathamesh Thakre helped Hyderabad bounce back in the match as they smashed a six each in the 50-50 over to assist their side in completing the challenge of scoring minimum 16 runs in the over, thus helping his team to reach 60/5 in seven overs. Varun (22) and Prathamesh (13) continued with their aggressive approach but couldn’t continue to stay for long on the crease as both batters were dismissed by Dilip Banjwa in eighth over.

Moreover, Farman Khan bowled a wicket maiden over as he sent Irfan Patel (1) back to the pavilion without giving a single run. With 21 runs needed of the last over, Falcon Risers Hyderabad managed to score just 7 runs and finished at 80/9 thus losing the match by 13 runs.
