Bengaluru, August 21 2023: The Gulbarga Mystics secured their third win of the season, beating the Shivamogga Lions by a comprehensive margin of nine wickets and a whopping 7.2 overs to spare in Maharaja Trophy T20 2023.
The Lions had a profitable powerplay, despite the early dismissals of Rohan Kadam (0) and Nihal Ullal (15). Rohit Kumar (25) and Rohan Naveen (33) struck a series of boundaries to place Shivamogga at 60/2 at the end of first powerplay. The pair built a 48-run partnership in just 28 balls. However, the innings staggered soon after as the left arm spinner Hardik Raj scalped Rohan Naveen and Abhinav Manohar (0) in the eighth over. The next over saw the dismissal of Rohit Kumar at the hands of Amit Verma leaving the Shivamogga Lions in hot water at 76/5 before the end of ninth over.
A cautious approach from Shreyas Gopal (16) and southpaw Pranav Bhatia (19) saw them string a 36-run partnership, but both batsmen failed to convert their starts and fell in quick succession as Shreyas Gopal was ousted by Macneil Noronha and Bhatia was deceived by the pace of Vyshak Vijaykumar.
The innings unravelled rapidly as the Shivamogga Lions lost their three remaining wickets for just nine runs including Kranthi Kumar (5) to Vyshak Vijaykumar and Shivraj (0) to Hardik Raj. They bundled up for a meagre total of 121/10 in 17.4 overs. Hardik Raj was the pick of the Gulbarga bowling unit with figures of 3/27, while Vyshak Vijaykumar (2/9) and Abhilash Shetty (2/21) picked up two wickets each.
In response the Gulbarga Mystics looked eager to impose themselves early on. Openers Chethan LR (58*) and Impact Player, Aadarsh Prajwal (37) brought up their 50-run in partnership in just 32 deliveries. Aadarsh Prajwal shone bright striking two sixes and three boundaries in the powerplay to hoist the Gulbarga Mystics to 59/0.The partnership was broken immediately after the power play as Shreyas Gopal picked the vital wicket of the well settled Adarsh Prajwal. Coming in at number three Macneil Noronha (27*) supported Chethan LR who unleashed an onslaught on the Shivamogga bowling attack getting to his half century in just 30 deliveries including a decimating twenty run over of Shreyas Gopal. The pair put on 66 runs to help Gulbarga cruise home with nine wickets and 7.2 overs to spare.
