Mumbai Indians are set to face Punjab Kings in their next encounter in Mohali and former cricketers came up to talk on how Hardik Pandya-led side is lacking the firepower in their bowling department.
Speaking exclusively on Star Sports Cricket Live, former Australian cricketer Aaron Finch shared his thoughts on how Mumbai Indians can get back on the winning track, saying, "First and foremost, I think the captain needs to find some form and consistency with bat and ball. We've seen him bowl in some games and not in others, so ideally, some form with both bat and ball. I think that will go a long way. Additionally, their bowling outside of Jasprit Bumrah has lacked depth of quality and consistency."
Aaron Finch shared his thoughts on Rohit Sharma's batting performance so far, said, “One thing I love seeing with Rohit Sharma at the moment is how he's playing carefree cricket. He did it throughout the 50-over World Cup, and he's doing it now. He's taking the game on, looking to have a maximum impact, which will be a great boost to the rest of the Mumbai Indians side. The start he provides along with Ishan Kishan can set up their whole batting innings. If they get on a roll in the second half of the IPL, it will be great for the team."
Kevin Pietersen shared his thoughts on Rishabh Pant, saying, "His mobility tonight was something that will give him great encouragement, which will also encourage Team India. Of course, he needs game time, as everyone does when coming back from an injury. He's returning from a horrific injury, so game time is crucial for him. To prepare for the T20 World Cup, he should play these 14–15 IPL games because it's significant leading into a T20 World Cup. If he plays that much cricket, he will be ready."
Pietersen spoke on the Gujarat Titans batting performance last night, and said, "It wasn't good enough. That surface wasn't an 80-all-out wicket, absolutely not. It was just some careless stuff at the top and you have to take risks when you're playing in the shortest form of the game. And some of the risks that were taken you get away with it, this evening it didn't happen. You go through tournaments where you have a little blip and say that's not how we play and in the history of their short campaign so far that is their first outing that hasn't been of a particular goodness for the batters.
I don't think it's a cause for concern, or it's a crisis and they need to have team meetings and discuss why are we playing so badly, why are we playing so poorly? They've got six points and I also hope that there are a lot of coaches out there who also sit at the start of the tournament and see the first, second, third, and fourth year and see how many games they lose throughout their campaign because you're going to lose games of cricket, no matter how you lose them, you're going to lose games of cricket and I just wonder if they do that at the start of the tournament as they strategize."
Pietersen spoke on the bowling performance of DC and how Rishabh Pant marshalled his bowlers, saying, "Yeah, the first three bowlers actually bowled beautifully this evening and the way that Rishabh Pant marshalled his troops was exceptional because you want to see one bowler bowling one over and another bowling another and they keep changing with five or six bowlers bowling in the first powerplay whereas Rishabh Pant said no, I am going to back my strike bowlers and I'm going to back the guys that are doing well for me, they are very good with the new ball and I want them to really bury GT. And that's exactly what Delhi did, they buried GT in the powerplay."
