Arch-rivals Australia and England will be locking horns in the third and final T20I at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Friday, October 14. This bilateral series has been forgettable one for the Aussies as they have lost the first two games and would now be hoping to end with a consolation win.
England, on the other hand, would be eyeing a whitewash as they look forward to making a solid statement ahead of this year's T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether the visitors would be making any team changes to test the bench strength ahead of the showpiece event.
At the same time, it also needs to be noted that both teams would be heading into this clash on the back of contrasting fortunes in the shortest format. While the Three Lions have won two successive bilateral T20I series, the Australians have suffered two-back-to-back defeats. Prior to their loss against England, they were beaten 1-2 in India last month.
Australia, who are the reigning T20 world champions, would now be hoping to come out on top in this dead-rubber clash. The win would be a morale-booster for them given the fact that the Aaron Finch-led side would be defending their title in their own backyard in a few days time.
Pitch Conditions
The wicket at Canberra is not that quick and is expected to offer some amount of assistance to the seamers upfront. A score in excess of 180 might be good enough to put the opposition under pressure in the second innings. However, since bowling first has been a trend in this series, the captain winning the toss will be opting to chase yet again.
Playing Combinations for AUS vs ENG
Australia
Australia would not be keen on making any changes and would be fielding the same XI. The onus would be on David Warner to score at a brisk rate and Marcus Stoinis to finish things on a brighter note.
Predicted XI: David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Cameron Green, Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa
England
With openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales in blistering form and the bowlers doing an outstanding job defending targets, it is highly unlikely for a change in England's playing XI.
Predicted XI: Jos Buttler (c & wk), Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, Mark Wood
