Australia and New Zealand will take on each other in the third and final ODI of the series on September 11 in Cairns. After having secured the series 2-0 already, Australia still have some holes to be filled especially with the World Cup coming up next year.
This will also mark the farewell game for skipper Aaron Finch who recently retired from the ODI format, and it will be interesting to see if Steve Smith gets back the leadership hat again. Also, going forward, Australia will have to find an opener to partner Warner at the top.
On the other hand, New Zealand have had relatively big chances of winning in both the games, but Australia's lower order contributions seemed to be hampering them. They would need to convert the good starts into complete performances and finish off the series on a good note.
Pitch and Conditions
The Cazaly's Stadium in Cairns has been quite helpful for the seamers and batters have found it tough to make runs especially against the moving new ball. The big boundaries play its part too and the skipper winning the toss would be looking to bowl first at the wicket.
Playing Combinations for AUS vs NZ
Australia
Australia is expected to make a few changes from the previous game as Marcus Stoinis has been ruled out and David Warner is rested due to excessive workload. The top order needs to be step up after collapsing continuously against the new ball spells from Trent Boult.
Predicted XI: Aaron Finch (c), Josh Inglis, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
New Zealand
New Zealand have had an ordinary series and they might try out some players from the bench for the upcoming final game considering they have lost the series already. Lockie Ferguson or Ben Sears could get a look in the fast-bowling department with the need for pace.
Predicted XI: Martin Guptill, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson (c), Tom Latham (wk), Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Trent Boult
