Australia will collide with West Indies for the second and final T20I of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, October 7. With the series on the line after Australia's narrow win in the series opener, it has the potential to be another nail-biting thriller.
The home side were pushed to their limits in the opening T20I, winning the match on the penultimate delivery by three wickets. The Windies' bowlers gave a great account of themselves on a tricky surface after their batters had managed a par score.
Australia's helter-skelter approach with the bat almost cost them the game until skipper Aaron Finch and veteran wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade consolidated for the hosts. Wade continued his rollicking form with the bat in the shortest format of the game, guiding the team to victory in another last-over thriller.
Meanwhile, West Indies will be ruing the missed chances, especially the two costly drop catches in the final over that ultimately shifted the momentum in the favor of the hosts. Nicholas Pooran will be hoping for a positive result in the 2nd T20I to avoid another series defeat in T20Is.
Pitch Conditions
The surface at Gabba has traditionally been one of the truest wickets in Australia with good bounce and carry throughout the game. The pacers are bound to get some assistance with the new ball but run-scoring is not going to be a problem on one of the flattest surfaces in the country.
Playing Combinations for AUS vs WI
Australia
Aaron Finch's solid half-century in the first T20I was the biggest positive for the home side as the under-fire skipper has struggled for runs of late. Matthew Wade once again highlighted his importance to the side with his late blitz. Glenn Maxwell's form is a bit of a headache for the Aussies as the trailblazing all-rounder has not been among runs lately.
Predicted Playing XI: David Warner, Cameron Green, Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Finch (c), Glenn Maxwell, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
West Indies
The visitors need to solidify their middle-order, which has been underperforming in white-ball cricket for a while now. Nicholas Pooran's side can be a dangerous proponent on their day but has failed to click so far. Alzarri Joseph's tremendous form with the ball is a big boost for the Windies.
Predicted Playing XI: Brandon King, Johnson Charles (wk), Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran (c), Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, Odean Smith, Raymon Reifer, Yannic Cariah, Alzarri Joseph, Sheldon Cottrell
