Australia and West Indies are all set to square off in the second and final Test match of the series at the Adelaide Oval on December 8, Thursday. Hosts Australia will be eyeing a clean sweep, having won the first game by 164 runs, in what is a pink-ball day-night Test match. Meanwhile, West Indies did put up a competitive show in the first game and will be looking to level the series.
Australia’s track record in pink-ball Test has been commendable. They have played ten day-night Test matches so far, and have won every single match. It will be a challenge for West Indies to break Australia’s unbeaten streak as they have played three pink-ball games so far and have failed to register a single victory.
West Indies will have to work on their bowling unit as the batting department looks strong with skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and rookie Tagenarine Chanderpaul taking charge of the scoring. As for Australia, skipper Pat Cummins has been ruled out owing to a quad strain and Steve Smith will be leading the side as the stand-in captain.
West Indies bowlers will aim to take down Marnus Labuschagne and Smith early in the game. Both batters are in great form, and while Labuschagne scored a century and a double ton in the previous game, Smith smashed a double-hundred in Australia’s first innings. Getting the two in-form batters out of the game quickly will be the visitors’ main aim.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at the Adelaide Oval has proven to be batter-friendly. More than the pacers, the spinners will have a say in the game. The average first innings score in Tests at this surface is 381 runs, and the teams batting first have won a majority of games here. Thus, the skippers will have clarity on what decision to take at the toss.
