After a thumping victory in the ODI series, England will now take on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, starting March 9 at Zahur Ahmed Stadium in Chattogram. When it comes to Bangladesh, they managed to defeat England in the final ODI of the series and will be confident of their chances in the upcoming T20I games.
The team management announced a revamped squad for the shortest format of the game as they named three uncapped players - Towhid Hridoy, Rejaur Rahman Raja and Tanvir Islam in the mix after the trio had a sensational season in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Players like Shamim Hossain and Rony Talukdar are called up as well after having a good season in the BPL while Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim’s form will also boost the team’s morale ahead of the T20I series. However, it’s their bowling that the team needs to work on at the moment.
They managed to restrict England for 196 runs in the final ODI but it might get difficult to keep England under pressure in T20 cricket, especially when the Jos Buttler-led side has enough firepower to counter any bowling attack in the world.
Batters like Buttler himself along with Will Jacks, Phil Salt and Dawid Malan can change the complexion of the game at any point, while with the ball Sam Curran and Jofra Archer can be very dangerous. Thus, ahead of the opening clash, the reigning world champions will be more or less relaxed while Bangladesh will once again hope to get the job done and get a lead in the T20I series.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch at Chattogram is slightly on the slower side and thus, the spinners are likely to dominate in the opening clash. Anything above 165 will be a good score on this wicket and the skipper winning the toss, should elect to bowl first.
