Afghanistan and Australia lock horns in match No. 10 of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday, February 28. This is going to be an important clash as the winner will make it to the semifinals, while the loser will have to pack their bags and return home.

Afghanistan and Australia have built up quite the rivalry in recent years. The Australian team has refused to play a bilateral series against the Afghans, citing discomfort at the ongoing Taliban's policies on women's participation in sport. However, the two teams have played some memorable encounters in ICC events.

In the ODI World Cup in 2023, a defiant Glenn Maxwell helped Australia earn a win from the jaws of defeat by scoring an unbeaten double century. However, Afghanistan got the better of the Aussies in the 2024 T20 World Cup, winning a pulsating clash by 21 runs.

Australia won their first match in the tournament by chasing down a mammoth target of 352 against England in Lahore. Their second game against South Africa was washed out in Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, Afghanistan started their campaign with a 107-run defeat to the Proteas. However, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side bounced back commendably and registered an eight-run win in Lahore against the Three Lions.
