The second round of the prestigious Duleep Trophy 2024 kicks off with India A locking horns with India D in the third game of the event at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur, in Andhra Pradesh starting Thursday, September 12.
The teams had a disappointing start to the four-team competition as they both are coming off defeats against India B and India C, respectively. For India A though, they had the likes of Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, and Riyan Parag, the side had a below-par outing as the opposition had the upper hand throughout the four days of play. India A, who had a target of 275 to chase down on the final day, fell short by 76 runs as the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side bundled them for 198.
On the other hand, India D, who took on Ruturaj Gaikwad's India C, were in the contest throughout the game, but India C outplayed them in some sessions which eventually resulted in a four-wicket defeat for the side. The Shreyas Iyer-led side posted a 236-run target for their opposition, but the bowlers had a poor outing which in the end favored the result towards Gaikwad & Co.
This contest will be interesting to see as some players from both squads have been released to join the Indian men's senior team for the upcoming Bangladesh series. India A will be without skipper Shubman Gill, as well as KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep.
The board has announced Mayank Agarwal as the captain along with Pratham Singh as a replacement for Gill, Akshay Wadkar as a replacement for Rahul, and Shaik Rasheed as a replacement for Jurel. Furthermore, Shams Mulani will take Kuldeep's place in the squad, whereas Aaqib Khan will replace Akash Deep.
For India D, Axar Patel has been released and will be replaced by Nishant Sindhu. Meanwhile, Tushar Deshpande has been ruled out due to a niggle and he will be replaced by Vidwath Kaverappa, who was in India A's squad for the first round.
