After a successful T20I series against Australia, India is all set to host South Africa for a three-match T20I series followed by as many ODIs. India and South Africa will be meeting for the third time in this calendar year, as the two teams earlier faced off in January, and then in June. India lost the ODI series in January while touring South Africa, whereas the T20I series in June was tied at 2-2.
Now that both teams have had some memorable outings recently, the upcoming match will be worth watching. South Africa is backed with a series win against Ireland and England, whereas India recently defeated Australia by 2-1 at home in a thrilling final game to clinch the series. Both the teams are in good form and would look for a positive result.
The last time the two teams met, India was without the services of some of the senior players like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah to name a few. But that won’t be the case this time as India will be in with a full-strength squad as the teams now prepare for the mega event- the T20 World Cup which is set to begin in a few days.
As for India, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya are in great form as they have played some match-winning knocks recently, contributing heavily to the team’s score. But Pandya's absence might hurt India somewhere. In the bowling department, Axar Patel will be the one to watch out for. As for South Africa, the in-form Reeza Hendricks will be the one to look out for, alongside the youngster Tristan Stubbs.
Pitch Conditions
The Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, has hosted only two games in the 20-over format, and the last one played there was back in 2019. The team batting first might not get much assistance. A score around or above 170 can be a winning total. The captain winning the toss would look to chase.
