IPL 2024, Match 17: Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings Match Preview

Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to host  Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 17th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Thursday, April 4. 

GT, led by Shubman Gill, started this edition's journey with a narrow victory, securing a six-run win against the five-time champion, Mumbai Indians (MI). However, they failed to carry forward the momentum as they suffered a 63-run defeat against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk in their second match. GT came back strong in their last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad as they chased down 163 runs and won the game by seven wickets. 

PBKS, on the other hand, are coming off two back-to-back defeats after winning their season opener against Delhi Capitals by four wickets. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side has been on the road and results haven't gone their way. With a four-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their second match and a 21-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants in their last game, PBKS haven't found the form they are looking for in the IPL 2024 season.

Under Shubman Gill's leadership, the batting performance of GT has seemed lacklustre so far in the ongoing IPL 2024. Wriddhiman Saha, David Miller, and Rahul Tewatia have been given the responsibility of strengthening the batting lineup. Miller who was trying to find his form in the first two games, showed great confidence in the last game as he scored an unbeaten 44. Sai Sudharsan is another young batter who has given consistent performances to the team for the past two seasons and is looking in good touch in the ongoing edition. Umesh Yadav hasn't been as consistent as expected in the absence of the injured Mohammed Shami, which has made things difficult for the squad.

With dependable batters like Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, and promising youngster Prabhsimran Singh, in the middle-order, PBKS will be confident to post a good score. PBKS has a well-balanced bowling line-up that can seal the game on a given date but hasn't performed to the expectation so far.
