Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will host the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, March 27. Both teams started their IPL 2024 campaigns with losses in away games. Sunrisers travelled to Eden Gardens, Kolkata to face two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders on March 23. In a high-scoring thriller, the Knights managed to hold their nerves and eked out a four-run win.
Fifties from Andre Russell and Phil Salt powered the home team to 208/7 in the first innings before Heinrich Klaasen smashed 63 off 29 balls to keep SRH in the hunt till the very end. With five runs required off the last ball, new skipper Pat Cummins failed to connect a slower delivery from Harshit Rana as the Knights got off the mark this season. T Natarajan's three-for in the first innings also deserves a special mention as the left-arm bowler mixed his yorkers and bouncers to keep the Knights' batters in check.
Mumbai Indians also suffered an agonising defeat as they lost to Gujarat Titans by six runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Under their new captain Hardik Pandya, Mumbai gave a good account of themselves with the ball as they restricted the Titans to 168/6.
Rohit Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Naman Dhir, and Tilak Varma got starts but they could not convert them into big scores. Eventually, 19 runs were required off the final over as Umesh Yadav came to bowl. Hardik hit the first ball for a six and the second for a boundary. However, the last four deliveries yielded only two runs and cost two wickets as Mumbai lost by six runs.
