New Zealand is all set to continue its five-match T20I series against Pakistan. Notably, both sides will lock horns in the second game at University Oval, in Dunedin on Tuesday, March 18. The Kiwis won the first match of the series by a comfortable nine-wicket margin and they will hope to put in another good showing and extend their lead.

In the opening game at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, a brilliant bowling performance from Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, and Ish Sodhi restricted the visitors to a mere 91 runs, which the hosts chased down with ease in just 10.1 overs.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Pakistan suffered a poor start, losing both openers Mohammad Haris and Hasan Nawaz for ducks within the first two overs. Haris edged a short ball from Jamieson to wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay, while Hasan was caught at deep third off Duffy’s bowling. Things got worse for the visitors as Jamieson removed Irfan Khan in the third over, reducing them to 1/3, their lowest score at the fall of the third wicket in T20Is.

Despite some fight from captain Salman Agha and Khushdil Shah, the Men in Green struggled to put runs on the board. Agha survived a couple of dropped chances but was eventually dismissed for 18 by Sodhi. Khushdil top-scored with 32 off 30 balls, including three sixes, but lacked support from the other end. Duffy wrapped up the tail, finishing with figures of 4/14, while Jamieson took 3/8 in his four-over spell. The opposition was dismantled for 91 in 18.4 overs, registering their lowest T20I total in New Zealand.

Chasing a small target of 92, the Black Caps started well with Tim Seifert smashing 44 off 29 balls, including seven boundaries and a six. He and Finn Allen put up a 53-run opening stand before Seifert fell to Abrar Ahmed. Allen, however, remained unbeaten on 29 off 17 balls, with Tim Robinson chipping in with 18 runs to make sure the Kiwis crossed the line comfortably with 59 balls to spare. Jamieson was named Player of the Match for his spell, making a successful return to the T20I setup after nearly two years.
