The long-lost gusto of tri-series has found its way again as New Zealand (NZ) take on South Africa (SA) in the second ODI in the tri-nation series being hosted in Pakistan, on Monday, February 10. Notably, the match will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium, in Lahore.

The Kiwis will be high on confidence after winning the first match against hosts Pakistan by 78 runs. Kane Williamson scored a patient half-century, while Daryl Mitchell slammed 81 off 84 balls. However, Glenn Phillips changed the complexion of the game by playing a breathtaking knock of 106* off 76 balls. Phillips' partnership with Mitchell Santner was a treat to watch as they added 76 runs off just 26 balls. However, the right-handed batter did the bulk of the damage while Santner was happy to enjoy the entertainment from the other end.

New Zealand posted a mammoth 330/6 before dismissing Pakistan for 252 in 47.5 overs. Matt Henry and Santner bagged three wickets each for New Zealand. Meanwhile, Michael Bracewell chipped in with a couple of scalps. Phillips also contributed with the ball, taking the important wicket of Fakhar Zaman, who top-scored for Pakistan with a 69-ball 84.

Meanwhile, South Africa would want to hit the ground running after suffering a humiliating 0-3 whitewash against Pakistan at home in their most recent ODI assignment. The Proteas have surprisingly given rest to quite a few of their senior players who were involved in the SA20 2025. Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen are some of the notable absentees. However, the others who are in Pakistan would want to make the most of their opportunities and push their case for a late inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad.

Pitch Report

The pitch was quite good for batting in the first ODI. Batters can expect another belter of a track at the Gaddafi Stadium on Monday. Spinners will have a role to play as the ball gets old. If the batters are willing to give themselves time in the middle, a lot of runs could be there for the taking.
