New Zealand and India will square off for the third and final ODI of the series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on November 30, Wednesday. The Kiwis currently have an upper hand in the series as they lead by 1-0. They bagged a massive seven-wicket win in the first game before the second game was washed out. The hosts will now be aiming for a series win, while the Men in Blue will be aiming to win the next game and end the series in a 1-1 tie.
Blackcaps skipper Kane Williamson and middle-order batter Tom Latham shared an unbeaten 221-run partnership for the fourth wicket while chasing the 307-run target set by India. While Williamson remained unbeaten scoring a 98-ball 94*, Latham went on to smash a century and notched up 145 runs off just 104 deliveries.
India’s top-order unit did really well with the bat as Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries. But the batting unit could not find the right momentum and fell short of some runs while batting first. Indian bowlers started off well as they dismissed Kiwi openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway early, but they struggled to pick wickets in the middle overs.
India’s bowling unit will have to put up a fine performance in the next game as the Men in Blue need to win the contest so as to return back with their heads high. Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik, who made their ODI debut in the first game, will be aiming to go big this time around, while Washington Sundar will be hoping to put up a similar all-round performance.
Pitch and Conditions
Hagley Oval in Christchurch will host this encounter. The average first innings total at this venue is 247, and of the 22 ODIs that have been played here, sides batting first have won 11 times. The pitch favors the batters and also assists the pacers in the early stages of the game.
Probable Playing XI for NZ vs IND 3rd ODI
New Zealand
New Zealand are unlikely to make a change to their playing combination. They replaced Adam Milne with Michael Bracewell for the second ODI, which was washed out after 12.5 overs and the players did not receive much of game time.
Probable Playing XI- Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Kane Williamson (c), Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, Matt Henry, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson
India
India made two changes for the previous game by bringing in Deepak Hooda and Deepak Chahar in place of Sanju Samson and Shardul Thakur. India is expected to continue with the same lineup as they need the sixth bowling option, and Hooda’s all-round skills will be helpful for the Men in Blue.
Probable Playing XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal
