The Men in Blue will continue their campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they lock horns with New Zealand on Sunday, October 22 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Both teams have been on a dominant run so far in the tournament as they’ve won all of their four matches so far.
New Zealand are coming into the game having beaten England, Netherlands, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and are ranked on the top of the points table with eight points from four matches. On the other hand, India are coming into the game having beaten Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh and are ranked second on the points table with eight points as well.
Heading into the game, the Rohit Sharma-led side will be wary of the challenge that the Kiwis pose as they’ve had an upper hand over India in ODI World Cup history. In the eight matches played between the two teams in ODI World Cup, New Zealand have beaten India on five occasions.
Furthermore, India have only beaten New Zealand once in ICC events since 2004 and have lost eight times. The Kiwis also crushed the dreams of billions of Indians as they knocked them out of the 2019 ODI World Cup by defeating them in the semi-final. Hence, India will be eyeing for a revenge for their several losses against New Zealand over the last two decades while the Tom Latham-led side will look to continue their winning run over the hosts.

IND vs NZ Pitch and Conditions
There have been a total of seven ODI matches played at the venue in its ODI history where teams chasing have won four times. The average first innings score has been 231 while the highest target chased is 226. In the two matches played in the tournament so far, the pitch has looked great for batting.
However, in the last game between South Africa and New Zealand batting under lights got tougher as the Proteas failed to chase down 246 and were bundled out for 207. Captain winning the toss is likely to bat first to challenge the opposition to chase under lights.
