ODI World Cup 2023, Match 36: England vs Australia Match Preview

Australia will have the opportunity to rub salt into the wounds of their Ashes rivals as a win for the 'Men in Yellow' against England on Saturday, November 4 in Ahmedabad will officially eliminate the defending champions from the ODI World Cup 2023.

With a solitary win in six games, England are languishing at the bottom of the table and run the risk of not qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. They are all but out of the semi-final race and finishing in the top eight to qualify for the Champions Trophy could be a more realistic target at the moment. They bowled well in their last game against India and restricted the home side to 229. However, the batting department could not back up the good work done by the bowlers as England eventually lost by 100 runs.

Dawid Malan had a good start to the tournament but he has fizzed off as the games have gone by. Jonny Bairstow has also been woefully out of form, scoring just one fifty in six games. The experienced trio of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and captain Jos Buttler have also been below par. David Willey has picked up five wickets in the last two games and will have an important role to play with the new ball. Adil Rashid has not been able to bowl with control. If he can hit his straps and pick wickets in the middle overs, it will help England restrict the destructive Aussie batters to an extent.
