Pakistan and Afghanistan face off in Super 4 of Asia Cup 2022 on September 7, Wednesday. Afghanistan came into Super 4 on the back of two wins in as many games in the group stage but faced their first defeat in this round to Sri Lanka. Pakistan, on the other hand, come into the game with two wins on the spin and have a chance of ensuring their qualification for the final on Wednesday.

Pakistan sealed a thrilling win over India on Sunday in Dubai, chasing a target of 182. Mohammad Nawaz was given the Player of the Match for his all-round performance, and the Men in Green are level on points with Sri Lanka. Afghanistan must simply win this game to stay alive in this tournament, or they would have to bank on Pakistan to win their game against Sri Lanka.

Pitch and Conditions

The wicket on Sharjah Cricket Stadium generally produces a good surface for batting. This venue has hosted three games in the Asia Cup so far, and there have been three totals of above 170. The temperatures, as it has been throughout the tournament, will be hot and there will be no dew as the day progresses. And the spinners are expected to come into play in the middle phase of the innings.

Playing Combinations for PAK vs AFG

Pakistan

Pakistan, having won two games in a row, might not tinker with their playing combination. However, their batting order might change depending on the situation as it did in the previous game, with Nawaz being promoted up.

Predicted Playing XI

Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Babar Azam (c), Fakhar Zaman, Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali, Mohammad Nawaz, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain

Afghanistan

Afghanistan have no reason to change their XI given that they have won two out of their last three games. An area of improvement for the Afghanis from the last game will their bowling. However, they would stick to the same spin-heavy lineup as it would be favourable on this wicket.
