India (IND) defeated South Africa (SA) by 61 runs in the first T20I of the series in Durban. Sanju Samson smashed a cracking century while Tilak Verma made 33 runs off 18 deliveries as India posted 202 runs on the board in the first innings. South African batters in the second innings failed to establish their authority, leading to a defeat.

The hosts have plenty of things that need to be addressed ahead of the second T20I at St George's Park, Gqeberha on November 10. The bowling unit has done a decent job but they lack experience. They missed the services of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje in the first game and it might bother them in the second one as well.

Batting has been their biggest strength in the shortest format but Aiden Markram, Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller failed to get going. They have proved themselves in the format but none of them could make a mark against India’s spin duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy, who picked up three wickets each.

Playing at home, the Proteas were expected to put up a better show but they couldn’t. Credit goes to the Indian bowlers, who were splendid and on the mark. Among pacers, Arshdeep Singh once again managed to give a breakthrough with the new ball while Avesh Khan picked up two. However, not everything is rosy for the Indian team as many of the batters have struggled to get going and that is one concern that the team management needs to address.

Pitch Report

The surface at St George’s Park assists the batters. A high-scoring encounter is expected and the team winning the toss should elect to bowl first. Anything over 190 runs can be considered to be a good total on the board.

Probable Predicted XIs

South Africa:

South Africa’s bowling bothered them in the last match but they don’t have enough options to choose from. They would expect the batting unit to show up but when it comes to changes, the Proteas are unlikely to make any.

Probable Playing XI: Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram (c), Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), David Miller, Patrick Kruger, Marco Jansen, Andile Simelane, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Nqabayomzi Peter

India:

India might consider bringing in an extra pacer but can they drop any of the spinners after such a brilliant performance in the first T20I? Probably not. They are very likely to back the winning combination.

Probable Playing XI: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan
