The pristine island nation Sri Lanka (SL) are hosting Australia in a two-match Test series. Notably, the hosts endured a mammoth defeat at the hands of the visitors in the series opener, which was played at the Galle International Stadium, in Galle.

Hence, it remains to be seen how Sri Lanka react to the first Test pounding, as the series moves on to the second game to be held at the same venue, the Galle International Stadium in Galle. Electing to bat first, Australia asserted themselves right from the outset. Tons from Steve Smith and Josh Inglis in addition to a double-century from Usman Khawaja powered the visitors to a monumental 654 in their first innings. Prabath Jayasuriya and Jeffrey Vandersay claimed three wickets each.

Dinesh Chandimal was the only batter who stepped up to the task in the hosts' first innings. There were only two other batters who crossed the 20-run mark. Matthew Kuhnemann starred with his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

On being enforced the follow-on, Sri Lanka saw an enhancement in their batting. However, none of the batters who got off to good starts could convert, with Vandersay attaining his maiden half-century being the highest scorer in the second innings. Kuhnemann and Nathon Lyon snared four each, resulting in Australia's greatest innings victory in Asia.

Pitch Report

The surface likely to be up on offer in Galle could be expected to grip from Day 1. Batters will have to grind it out to get settled at the crease. Much like the first Test, spinners could be projected to have a dominating influence on the game.

Probable Playing XIs

Sri Lanka:
Asitha Fernando had a poor outing with the ball. He was just not able to find a channel to challenge the Australian batters. One of Lahiru Kumara or Vishwa Fernando could be expected to replace Asitha.
