Sri Lanka and the West Indies square off in a three-match T20I series at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. The first T20I is scheduled to be played on Sunday, October 13.
Sri Lanka have not been in great form in the shortest format of the game of late. They crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the first round itself after suffering defeats against South Africa and Bangladesh. Their only win in the tournament came against the Netherlands.
Sri Lanka went on to play a three-match T20I series at home against a new-look Team India and lost all the matches. Charith Asalanka didn't have the best of starts to his captaincy tenure in white-ball cricket. He will be expecting more grit and determination from his side against the West Indies.
Meanwhile, the West Indies have been on a resurgence in the T20 format after flattering to deceive in recent years. They won five out of the seven matches they played in the T20 World Cup but couldn't reach the semi-finals.
They recently played three T20I against South Africa in Tarouba, Trinidad and won all of them. Confidence must have skyrocketed for the Caribbean side after their comprehensive performance against the Proteas, and they would want to build on it in the Island Nation.
