The First Round scenario of the T20 World Cup 2022 has become very intriguing, with all eight teams giving their best to make it to the Super 12. With similar hopes, the West Indies and Ireland will lock horns with each other, in the penultimate match of the First Round, at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday, October 21.
Both teams will look to give their best as the winner will make its way into Super 12 and the losing side will be knocked out of the tournament. Ireland lost their first match against Zimbabwe by 31 runs but bounced back strongly to bag a win in their second match against Scotland by six wickets and thus have kept their hopes of making it to the Super 12 stage alive.
The West Indies, on the other hand, suffered a disappointing defeat in the first game against Scotland, but the bowlers managed to pull off a win against Zimbabwe in the last fixture by a margin of 31 runs. Pacers Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder shared seven wickets between themselves and stormed through the Zimbabwe batting line-up.
The Irish middle-order batters pulled off a miracle in their previous game and turned the table around towards the end while chasing and thus the hopes would be high. On the other hand, the Caribbean bowlers would be the ones to look out for as the batters struggled in the previous game, but the pacers proved to be the reason behind the team’s win.
Pitch Conditions
The Bellerive Oval's pitch appears to be favourable for batting. Batters prefer batting on this surface because the ball comes onto the bat smoothly. While bowling on the surface, the bowlers must be precise with their line and lengths. The captain winning the toss will look to bowl first.
