T20 World Cup 2022: New Zealand vs Afghanistan match preview, playing XI, Head to Head, Where to Watch on TV, & Live Streaming Details for T20 WC
The match will be played on October 26.
After completing a thumping victory over the defending champions Australia, New Zealand are set to take on Afghanistan in their next Super 12 stage match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. The match will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 26 (Wednesday).
The Kiwi batters including Devon Conway, Finn Allen, and James Neesham were all over the Australian side as they piled up 200 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner broke the back of the Australian batting line-up and completed a comprehensive victory.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost their opening encounter against England. Defending a small total of 112 runs, Afghanistan's bowlers fought well, but the Three Lions managed to seal the game by five wickets. The Asian side will be looking to put up a fight against a strong Kiwi side.
To note, both New Zealand and Afghanistan have faced each other only once in T20Is before, in last year's T20 World Cup. Chasing 125 to win, the Black Caps recorded an eight-wicket win, as they chased down the total in just 18.1 overs. Pacer Trent Boult starred for the Kiwis in that game, claiming 3/17 in his four overs.
Pitch Conditions
The wicket at the MCG is going to be a decent one to bat on, but the new ball bowlers might get some help as we saw during the recent India-Pakistan clash. Due to the size of the ground, batters will need to run hard between the wickets and convert ones into twos. The skipper winning the toss might want to bowl first.
