T20 World Cup 2024: Match 14, NZ vs AFG Match Preview: Head to Head records, pitch report and more
New Zealand will take on Afghanistan in the 14th game of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Guyana, on June 8.
New Zealand (NZ) are all set to host Afghanistan (AFG) in their first T20 World Cup 2024 game at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, on June 8. The Kane Williamson-led side hasn’t played a lot of cricket in recent times as most of their players from their five-match series against Pakistan aren’t part of the squad. Despite so, the Kiwis can’t be taken lightly, especially in ICC tournaments, where they always manage to put up a show.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, picked up an astounding victory over Uganda in their opening match of the campaign. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave the team a perfect start, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan were phenomenal with the ball. They picked up an easy win but the challenge against New Zealand will be a different and difficult one.
They have a very good bowling unit and the conditions will favour them in Guyana but the focus will be on the batters. Barring Gurbaz and Ibrahim, others failed to impress and that’s a concern.

New Zealand in the meantime have a lot of match-winners. Skipper Kane Williamson himself will be a key player for his side, while Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips can prove to be vital with the bat. Among bowlers, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi can make a lot of difference. They also have veterans like Trent Boult and Tim Southee in the mix and their experience will come in handy.
