Defending champions England (ENG) square off against neighbours Scotland (SCO) in match 6 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Tuesday, June 4, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

England played a four-match T20I series at home against Pakistan heading into the T20 World Cup. However, two out of those matches were abandoned without a ball being bowled. The Three Lions won the two other matches with consummate ease. England have a formidable opening pair comprising captain Jos Buttler and Phil Salt. Both of them were in splendid form during the recently concluded Indian Premier League. The middle order is packed with firepower, with the likes of Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, and Harry Brook in the line-up. The dangerous all-rounders Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone can take the best bowling attacks in the world to the cleaners.

In the bowling department, the return of Jofra Archer gives England a huge boost. He can form a formidable pair with Mark Wood. Reece Topley could take the new ball and would want to make early inroads. Adil Rashid will look to use his experience through the middle overs and get England some crucial wickets.

Unlike England, Scotland have played quite a few T20Is ahead of the World Cup. They defeated UAE 2-1 in a three-match away series in March. Richie Berrington and Co. participated in a tri-series involving Ireland and Netherlands and finished second. Scotland's first warm-up game against Uganda ended in a no result. Their second warm-up encounter against Afghanistan was a one-sided affair as the Asian side comprehensively defeated their opponents by 55 runs.

A lot will depend on how the aggressive opener, George Munsey, bats for Scotland. He has played 66 T20Is and has an impressive strike rate of 143.66. Skipper Berrington will have to play a crucial role in the middle order. Meanwhile, talismanic all-rounder Brandon McMullen will be the player to watch out for. Bradley Currie's burst with the new ball is going to be key for Scotland, and the European side will want him to make early inroads.

The surface at Bridgetown, Barbados has among the most balanced, which offers a lot to the bowlers due to its slow nature. The pace of the ball further reduces as the game progresses, not allowing batters to play with a lot of freedom. In 25 matches played at the venue, 16 have been won while defending the total, and as a result, the team that wins the toss will surely look to bat first.
