West Indies have a great opportunity to give their fans something to cheer about as they need to win just one game out of the remaining three against India to take an unassailable lead. The two T20Is that the home side has won till now were nail-biting affairs as the games went down to the wire. However, Rovman Powell's men held their nerves and managed to beat India in consecutive T20Is for the first time since 2016.
In the second T20I in Guyana, India put on 152/7 in their 20 overs on what was a difficult surface to bat on. Tilak Varma impressed yet again as he notched up his maiden international half-century, eventually being dismissed for 51 off 41 balls. However, other Indian batters could not capitalise.
West Indies got off to a dreadful start as they were reduced to 2/2 in the first over as Pandya dismissed Brandon King and Johnson Charles. However, Nicholas Pooran played a gem of an innings, scoring 67 in 40 to help the hosts bring the required run rate below six.
West Indies suffered a mini-collapse from this point as they lost four wickets for three runs in 13 balls to bring India back into the game. However, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph remained calm and finished the chase with seven balls and two wickets to spare. India will have to bat better in the third game in Guyana on August 8, while West Indies will love to get a win to register a rare series win against India.
Pitch and conditions
The surface at the Providence Stadium in Guyana for the second T20I was difficult to score on. Spinners, especially Yuzvendra Chahal, got the ball to grip and turn. If the same pitch is used, scoring runs could get tougher. Winning the toss and opting to bat first won't be a bad option.
Probable Playing XI For WI vs IND
West Indies
The hosts were rewarded for sticking to an unchanged playing XI for the second T20I. However, they might look to bring in Roston Chase for Johnson Charles, who has had a quiet couple of matches. The off-spin of Chase can bode well for West Indies as India have two left-handers in their top four.
Probable Playing XI: Kyle Mayers, Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell (c), Jason Holder, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Obed McCoy
India
Hardik Pandya said at the toss ahead of the second T20I that Kuldeep Yadav was rested as a precautionary measure as he was hit on the hand in the nets. The in-form spinner should walk in to replace Ravi Bishnoi, who did not have a great outing in the second game. Further, Axar Patel might make way to accommodate Yashasvi Jaiswal as the former did not bowl in the second match, with West Indies playing three left-handers in their top six.
Probable Playing XI: Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar
