After failing to book a spot in the 2023 ODI World Cup, West Indies (WI) are all set to host team India (IND) in a multi-format series, scheduled to kickstart on July 12. The two sides will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is at home and in the USA.

The two sides will contest in the first Test at Windsor Park in Dominica on Wednesday, July 12. Notably, the red-ball matches will mark the first series for both teams in the 2023-25 cycle of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

Rohit Sharma-led team India are back on the field following a crushing defeat at the hands of Australia in the summit clash of the ICC WTC 2021-23 cycle at The Oval in London. After a rare-month-long break, team India will look to come all guns blazing and kickstart the latest cycle of the WTC with a bang.

Meanwhile, the Windies will look to swiftly forget their miseries of being unable to participate in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India after dismal outings in the ODI World Cup Qualifiers. Speaking about their head-to-head records in Tests, the Caribbean side has a massive upper hand with 30 wins to team India’s 22 in 98 outings thus far with 46 matches resulting in a draw.

Pitch and conditions

The surface at Windsor Park in Dominica initially assists the pacers, helping them with an ample amount of bounce and pace. However, batters will have some say in the following days whereas spinners too could be of use towards the business end of the matches. Skipper winning the toss may elect to field first in the match.

Following the injury of Gudakesh Motie, the Windies selection committee announced the inclusion of Rahkeem Cornwall for the first Test. In addition to this, Alick Athanaze, who has been in fine form with the bat, is likely to earn his Test cap against team India in Dominica.
