South Africa were inching closer to clinching their maiden T20 World Cup title in 2022 but ultimately fell short in the final. This time around, they would hope to get the job done in UAE. The Laura Wolvaardt-led side lost both their warm-up games, which is not a good sign but would be hopeful to turn things around in the opening game against West Indies on October 4 in Dubai.

The captain needs to lead from the front for South Africa. Wolvaardt has been consistent but she needs to convert her starts into something substantial. Veteran all-rounder Marizanne Kapp will also have the responsibility of taking a massive chunk of the workload. Since it can be her last dance in the T20 World Cup, she would be eager to produce quality performances to help the team.

When it comes to the bowling unit, Ayabonga Khaka has done a commendable job in the warm-up games. Against India, she picked up a five-wicket haul and will be crucial for the team before the spinners weave their magic.

West Indies, meanwhile, will come with a lot of expectations. However, Hayley Matthews-led side lost both their warm-up games as well, which is concerning. The skipper is usually burdened with immense responsibility, which is one thing that needs to change for West Indies to find success.

The batting unit disappointed heavily in the warm-up game and if the trend continues, West Indies will only struggle in the tournament. Only two out of the five teams from the group stage will make it to the playoffs. If the team don’t find the rhythm soon enough, the campaign could be over soon.

The surface of Dubai is expected to favour the spinners. Batting first will be the ideal thing as the conditions will become difficult as the game progresses. Anything above 130 could be challenging to chase.
