WPL 2024, Match 18: Gujarat Giants Women vs UP Warriorz Women Match Preview

The action will continue in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 as Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz will take on each other in Match 18 on Monday, March 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. Gujarat are coming into the game having lost their previous fixture against Mumbai Indians by seven wickets. The Beth Mooney-led side is once again having a disastrous season having won just one match out of six and are languishing on the last spot with two points to their name.

Notably, Gujarat’s only win of the season came against Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in Match 13 where they beat them by 19 runs. They further lost against Mumbai in the last fixture despite having the game under control but ended up leaking 91 runs in the last six overs to lose the game. Hence, they find themselves on the verge of getting knocked out from the tournament. However, they still have a slight mathematical chance and will look to keep it alive by winning the remaining two fixtures.

On the other hand, UP are coming into the game having won their last fixture against Delhi Capitals by one run. They’re ranked on the second last spot (fourth) on the points table with three wins from seven matches having six points to their name. UP had their back against the wall in the previous fixture when DC required 15 runs to win off the last two overs having six wickets in hand.

However, Deepti Sharma and Grace Harris pulled things back in the last two overs picking six wickets giving away just 13 runs. The Alyssa Healy-led side need to win the upcoming fixture at all costs to stay alive in the knockouts race and a victory by a good margin will further aid their cause. Hence, they will be eager to bring their 'A game' to the fore and hammer already battered Gujarat in their last fixture.

Out of the five matches played in the tournament so far in the season, four have been won by teams batting first. The average first innings score has been 175 while the highest target chased is 191. The captain winning the toss will look to bat first keeping the recent record in mind.
