Consistency has been a major problem for Bangladesh in every format of the game. The side that looked very promising after a stunning 2019 ODI World Cup did well on home conditions but failed to be a consistent side and now, with few seniors unavailable, they looked helpless in the middle. In the second ODI against West Indies, Tanzid Hasan looked in good touch but the 24-year-old barely had any support on the other end.

Another opener Soumya Sarkar departed for two, Litton Das made four while captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored one. With that, Bangladesh were reduced to 64/4. Later, Mahmudullah did well, scoring 62 runs but it wasn’t enough. Tanzim Sakib played an important cameo of 45 runs but unless the batters score big in ODIs, it often gets difficult to threaten the opposition. Courtesy of these small contributions, Bangladesh posted 227 runs on the board in the first innings.

Jayden Seales had a terrific time with the ball for West Indies, picking up a four-wicket haul while Gudakesh Motie clinched two. In the second innings, openers Brandon King and Evin Lewis gave the host a perfect start. The duo stitched a partnership of 109 runs and pushed Bangladesh out of the contest. Lewis made 49 runs in the middle King scored 82 runs off 76 deliveries.

Batting at three, Keacy Carty hit 45. Later, Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford played unbeaten knocks of 17 and 24 to win the game for West Indies. With two back-to-back wins, they have also sealed the three-match ODI series. Meanwhile, Bangladesh bowlers had a rough time in the middle, particularly Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Sakib. They will have to improve significantly and move on from the Shakib Al Hasan era to produce better performances.

Meanwhile, Seales has been adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant spell with the new ball. That put pressure on Bangladesh early on and they failed to recover from that.
