South Zone gained an upper hand during the Day 2 of the final match of the 2022 Duleep Trophy  on Thursday on back of a stunning century from Baba Indrajith. West Zone resumed from their overnight score of 250/8. However, their innings got over as the batting team managed to add just 20 runs to their overnight score. Senior player Jaydev Unadkat remained unbeaten for his 47 runs as he stroked four boundaries.

The  South Zone opening batters, Rohan Kunnummal and Mayank Agarwal gave a decent start to their team, but Agarwal was scalped soon by Atit Sheth as his team stumbled on 30/1. His opening partner, Kunnummal also got out soon after scoring 31 runs.

Baba Indrajith scored an excellent hundred for his team

After the fall of both openers, skipper Hanuma Vihari and Baba Indrajith took control of the game as they took their team's total past the 100-run mark. Vihari's innings ended shortly after he was scalped by Sheth.

Indrajith, who was playing well, was then joined by another senior batter Manish Pandey as they both stitched an important 105-run partnership for the fourth wicket and took their side's total past the 200-run mark.

However, both Indrajith and Pandey fell in quick succession leaving their side on 236/5. Batter Ricky Bhui was also scalped soon. Senior all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham and Ravi Teja then formed a vital partnership between them as the South Zone crossed the 300-run mark but lost seven wickets in the process.

At the end of the day's play, Teja and Sai Kishore are occupying the crease for South Zone as they have gained a decent lead of 48 runs. The batting side will look to expand their lead after coming to bat on Day 3. Talking about the bowling team, Sheth and Unadkat have scalped three wickets each while Tanush Kotian has also scalped one wicket. Coming on day 3,  West Zone will be looking to wrap up South Zone's first innings as soon as possible.
