After a sensational win over India A in the opening game of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, India B were expected to put up a better show with the ball in the second game against the C side. However, they struggled big time as India C batters were all over them on Day 1. The day started with a boundary from Ruturaj Gaikwad but he left the field soon after that after being 'retired hurt'.

Sai Sudharsan and Rajat Patidar built a crucial partnership and set the tone for the day. They made 43 and 40 runs respectively, but later on, Ishan Kishan and Baba Indrajith stole the show. Kishan, who left India’s tour to South Africa early and didn’t play in the Ranji Trophy, was axed from BCCI’s central contract earlier in the year. He didn’t feature in the opening game of the Duleep Trophy, but returned for the second round and hit a century.

He played an aggressive brand of cricket and made 111 runs off 126 balls before Mukesh Kumar got the better of him. Baba Indrajith supported him well in the middle, with a well poised 78 run knock. The 30-year-old had a great time in the first game against India D as well and will be happy with his performance so far. Meanwhile, the duo stitched a partnership of 189 runs, which helped India C post 357/5 in Day 1.

Towards the fag end of the day, captain Ruturaj once again came out to bat. He finished the day on 46* runs and will be happy with the effort he has put in despite being injured. Meanwhile, keeper-batter Abhishek Porel made 12 runs while Manav Suthar remained unbeaten on eight runs.

Mukesh picked up three wickets for India B while Navdeep Saini and Rahul Chahal picked up one each. Chahar particularly proved costly, and so did Washington Sundar, who conceded 55 runs in 10 overs.
