India B toiled hard on Day 3 of match 5 of the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024, being played at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur, on Saturday, September 21. However, India D would be the happier side in the dressing room, having taken their lead to 311 in the second innings, with five wickets in the hut.
India B, who need a win to keep their hopes of winning the Duleep Trophy alive, started Day 3 at 210/6, with Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar at the crease. The overnight pair added 35 runs before Chahar was dismissed. Sundar took the attack to his 'D' mates before being dismissed for 87 off 140 balls. India B finished on 282, conceding a lead of 67 runs.
Saurabh Kumar was the pick of the bowlers for India D as the left-arm spinner finished with figures of 5/73 in 19.2 overs. Meanwhile, pacers Arshdeep Singh and Aditya Thakare bagged three and two wickets, respectively.

Ricky Bhui continues splendid run of form
India B bowlers got their team off to a fantastic start in India D's second innings as three wickets fell inside the first four overs. Captain Shreyas Iyer joined forces with the in-form Ricky Bhui and they forged a counter-attacking partnership of 75 runs off just 63 balls. Iyer scored 50 runs in the partnership off just 40 balls, hitting seven fours and a six before becoming Mukesh Kumar's second victim.

Bhui retired hurt after getting hit on the back of his helmet twice by Navdeep Saini. First innings' centurion, Sanju Samson, scored a fluent 45 off 53 balls but Mukesh ended his stay at the crease. Bhui returned to bat and forged an unbeaten stand of 83 off just 79 balls before the close of play. The 27-year-old will start Day 3 on 90* off 87 balls, while Akash Sengupta was batting on a 68-ball 28. India D are currently placed at 244/5, with a lead of 311 runs.
