West Zone won the Duleep Trophy 2022 final after beating South Zone by a massive margin of 294 runs at the SNR College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore on Sunday (September 25). Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged the Player of the Match for his stupendous knock of 265 in the second innings while Unadkat bagged the Player of the Tournament award for his consistently brilliant performances.

Earlier, South Zone resumed the final day at 154 for 6 with Ravi Teja (8*) and Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore (1*) marching into the middle. For West Zone, it was the experienced Unadkat who started off things and he hardly bowled freebies to the two batters. Sai Kishore showed some resistance as he played 82 deliveries for seven runs however, was dismissed by Chintan Gaja to end the 57-run partnership (between him and Ravi Teja) for the seventh wicket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal sent off the field for disciplinary issues

During the game Ravi Teja and Yashasvi had a verbal spat and skipper Ajinkya Rahane tried to calm things down. Once the on-field umpires issued the warning, Rahane had no option but to ask Jaiswal to leave the field for a while.

Ravi Teja hit some lusty blows while taking on the left-arm spin of Shams Mulani and reached a valiant half-century. After all the hard work, Mulani got one to go with the arm and trapped Teja leg before wicket at an individual score of 53.

Once Ravi Teja was dismissed for 53, it was just a matter of time despite Krishnappa Gowtham using his long levers. Mulani picked up his fourth wicket as he bagged Basil Thampi for a duck while Gowtham was the last batter to be dismissed for 17.

Mulani was the pick of the bowlers for West Zone in the second innings with 4 for 51 while Unadkat and Atit Sheth picked up two wickets each. The Irani Trophy 2022 is just five days away and will take place between Saurashtra and the Rest of India in Rajkot.
