India registered a comfortable 116-run win against Ireland in the second ODI on Sunday, January 12, at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. The Women in Blue took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Smriti Mandhana won the toss and opted to bat first on what seemed like a true surface. She notched up a magnificent 156-run stand for the first wicket with Pratika Rawal. However, the two openers departed off consecutive deliveries after scoring fluent half-centuries. While Mandhana made a 54-ball 73, Rawal scored 67 off 61 deliveries.

Harleen Deol and Jemimah Rodrigues joined forces and stitched a sensational 183-run stand off just 168 balls to put the hosts in a position of strength. The former departed for 89 after facing 84 balls. She hit 12 boundaries during her delightful knock. Meanwhile, Jemimah went on to register her maiden international century in the final over when she hit Arlene Kelly for a boundary through the off-side ring.

The right-hander was dismissed off the very next ball but her knock of 102 off 91 was key to take India to their highest total in the format, a 370/5. Jemimah hit 12 boundaries during her stay at the crease.

Ireland got off to a sedate start as the opening stand between skipper Gaby Lewis and Sarah Forbes yielded 32 runs in 7.3 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Coulter Reilly came out to bat at No. 3 and added 55 runs with her captain. Lewis eventually departed for 38 in the 21st over while Orla Prendergast failed with the bat once again as she was sent back by Priya Mishra in the 27th over.

Reilly and Laura Delany forged an 83-run stand off 82 balls for the fourth wicket. Ireland shifted their focus to batting out the full quota of 50 overs instead of going for the humongous target. Reilly departed for 80 off 113 deliveries after hitting 10 fours.

In the end, the tourists were restricted to 254/7 as Deepti Sharma bagged figures of 3/37 in 10 overs. Priya Mishra contributed with two wickets while seamers Titas Sadhu and Sayali Satghare took one wicket apiece.
