RSWS 2022, Match 11 Review: Brad Haddin show gives Australia thrilling win over Bangladesh
Haddin scored an unbeaten 58 runs in just 37 balls and was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent performance
A spirited batting performance from Brad Haddin shocked the Bangladesh Legends in a group stage match of the Road Safety World Series (RSWS) at the Holkar Stadium, Indore on September 18 (Sunday).
Australia won the toss and opted to have a bowl first and Bangladesh had the worst possible start as they lost three wickets within the field restrictions. However, some sensible batting from Alok Kapali, Nazmus Sadat, and Elias Sunny alongside plenty of extras conceded by Australian bowlers ensured that the Bangladeshi team post a decent total of 158.
Some decent contributions were also given by skipper Mohammad Sharif and Dolar Mahmud. Meanwhile, for Australia Legends, Bret Lee, Dirk Nannes, John Hastings, Shane Watson, George Horlin, and Nathan Reardon, all scalped one wicket each.
Chasing a total of 159, Australia skipper Watson and Callum Ferguson were brutal with the bat as they thrashed the Bangladeshi bowling line-up. However, a spirited bowling performance from Sunny (4/8) meant that the Bangladesh make a strong comeback.
Even after Australia continued to lose wickets, veteran batter Brad Haddin ensured that his team remained in the contest. He found some able partners in the form of George-Horlin Smith and John Hastings who did not contribute much with the bat but ensured that Haddin got the strike.
The match went down till the wire with Haddin standing in way of Bangladesh and victory. It all came down to 26 runs being required in the final two overs with Haddin and Lee at the crease. Under pressure, Haddin brought out his best game as he smashed three concecutive boundaries in last three balls and won an emphatic game for his side. The right-handed batter scored an unbeaten 58 runs in just 37 balls and was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent performance with the bat.
