Coming on the back of a comprehensive 10-wicket defeat to South Africa Women a couple of days back, the onus lay on West Indies Women to come back strongly against a Scottish outfit who gave a better fight in their opening game but failed to cross over the line as well. Opting to bat first, Scotland Women were given an early reprieve in the very first over of the game, as Hayley Matthews dropped a sharp chance at first slip.

Saskia Horley seemed to be getting into the groove but departed as Matthews finally had the last laugh. The very next over saw Horley's partner, Sarah Bryce, getting done by a beauty of a delivery by Chinelle Henry. The right-arm medium-fast bowler bowled four on the trot as she finished her spell with superb figures (1/10). Notably, this also included a couple of maiden overs after she had conceded eight in the very first over of the game.

Overs 7-11 resulted in just the sole boundary being scored, but skipper Kathryn Bryce and Ailsa Lister grew into the game with a stand which promised a lot. However, a double-wicket over from Afy Fletcher saw the Scottish pegged back. Scotland Women could never really recover from Fletcher's over as their scoring rate decreased significantly. Things just went downhill after Bryce's dismissal as Scotland could only muster 99 in their quota of 20 overs.

Apart from hanging onto two catches, Karishma Ramharack also bowled a splendid final over of the innings, which only went for six runs. Matthews and Fletcher were spot on yet again. It was to be determined how the West Indian batting lineup would approach the run-chase, given the pounding they received at the hands of the Proteas Women a few days back. The Scottish would have sniffed a slight chance of a victory with Stafanie Taylor having her stumps castled by Rachel Slater. They would have fancied their odds even more post Priyanaz Chatterji and Olivia Bell got rid of the skipper and the opposition's wicketkeeper in successive overs.

With the departure of Qiana Joseph for an enterprising 18-ball 31-run knock, it looked anyone's game. However, the Windies were still favourites considering the shortage of runs on the board. Deandra Dottin and Henry wasted no time whatsoever as their aggressive 42* (20) stand for the fifth wicket was enough to surpass the Scottish challenge in 11.4 overs. The dominant victory, in turn, has boosted West Indies Women's net run rate to +1.154, making them the forerunners of Group B up until Match 8 of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024.
