Durham took on Birmingham Bears in a critical North Group encounter of the ongoing Vitality Blast 2024 at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on June 08. Durham won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers Graham Clark (0 off 02) and skipper Alex Lees (08 off 11) were dismantled within the powerplay. Even though Durham lost two wickets under six overs, their score stood at 68/2.

David Bedingham (63 off 27) and Ollie Robinson (25 off 18) stitched a good partnership in the middle to take Durham in a comfortable situation. Bedingham in his 27-ball stay smashed nine boundaries and three sixes. Joining him was Ashton Turner (33 off 24) who played a brilliant cameo in the middle overs.

Ben Raine, Haydon Mustard, and Paul Coughlin all chipped in with a few runs as Durham ended their innings at 194/9 after the allotted 20 overs. George Garton took three wickets, along with Dan Mousley and Jake Lintott picking two wickets each.

In reply, the Alex Davies-led side had a poor start to their chase as opener Rob Yates (0 off 01) walked back to the pavilion early. Davies and Dan Mousley took charge from there on, as they took the score to 81 runs. Skipper Davies fell three runs short of his well-deserved half-century and Moousely was dismissed after a 20-ball 35. While Jacob Bethell was trying to score runs from one end and smashed 50 runs off 32 balls, the wickets were falling in tandem from the other end. Four batters of Birmingham walked back to the pavilion without adding a run to the tally.

Durham successfully defended their total as they bundled out the Bears on 168 and won the game by 26 runs. Ben Raine was the pick of the bowlers picking five wickets.

Durham will take on Leicestershire in their next game at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on June 12. On the other hand, Birmingham Bears will take on Yorkshire at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham on June 14.
