Bangladesh Women brought out their A-game to register a brilliant 60-run win in the second ODI against hosts West Indies Women at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on January 21, to level the series at 1-1. With this thumping win, they have managed to keep the hopes of direct qualification for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 alive.

The game began with the visitors batting first after losing the toss and posting a defendable total of 184 runs in 48.5 overs. Nigar Sultana played a captain's knock, scoring 68 off 120 balls, her fifth ODI half-century. She anchored the innings and shared a crucial 51-run partnership with Sobhana Mostary (23) for the fourth wicket. Shorna Akter (21) provided the stability at the end. Karishma Ramharack (4-33) and Aaliyah Alleyne (3-24) were the wreckers in chiefs with the ball for the hosts and ensured that Bangladesh didn’t score freely.

Defending 184, Bangladesh’s bowlers made an impact early on. Spinner Nahida Akter was the best performer, finishing with figures of 3/31, including key wickets of skipper Hayley Matthews (16) and Shemaine Campbelle (28). Rabeya Khan, Fahima Khatun, and Marufa Akter chipped in with two wickets each. The West Indies batters suffered a batting collapse as the hosts were bundled out for 124 in 35 overs.

This victory was not only crucial for Bangladesh’s World Cup qualification but also was their first-ever win against the West Indies in any format. The win places Bangladesh in seventh position on the ODI Women’s Championship points table, level with New Zealand.
