WPL 2025, Match 19 Review: Harmanpreet Kaur's fifty, Amelia Kerr's three-fer grants close win; Bharti Fulmali's heroics prove futile

Mumbai Indians Women claimed victory by nine runs against Gujarat Giants Women in Match 19 of the Women's Premier League 2025 at the Brabourne Stadium. This was the first of the four games which will be played in Mumbai this season.  

It was mainly due to skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, who notched up her second half-century of WPL 2025, that Mumbai got to 179/6 at the end of 20 overs. A poor run-out pegged Mumbai back early on. Hayley Matthews was dismissed on the final delivery of the seventh over. Nat Sciver-Brunt departed just when she looked set for a big one.

Cameos from Amanjot Kaur (27 off 15), Sajeevan Sajana (11* off 6), and wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia (13 off 4) proved quite vital too. Kaur (54 off 33) departed on the second delivery of the final over of the innings, but she had done her job for the team. Kaur's opposite number, Ashleigh Gardner, was the pick of the bowlers from her side. She ended up with figures of 1/27 in four overs. Deandra Dottin and Tanuja Kanwar conceded at a rate northwards of 10. 

Gujarat were in all sorts of trouble at five-down by the 11th over. Gardner was the third wicket to fall after Beth Mooney and promoted opener, Kashvee Gautam, both fell for underwhelming scores. Phoebe Litchfield was the fifth wicket to fall, Shabnim Ismail's second of the evening. However, it was then when Bharti Fulmali arrived in the middle. She kept her side in the chase with her power-hitting skills.

Despite Dottin falling on the first delivery of the 14th over, Fulmali kept going. The Amravati-born was looking primed to take Gujarat home while going after Amelia Kerr in the latter's final over; the same over in which she brought up her half-century off 22 deliveries. However, the New Zealander got the better of the explosive batter to change the complexion of the game in the favour of the hosts. Matthews hung on right at the end to bowl a fine last over, conceding only three when 13 were required.
