Emerging batter Yashasvi Jaiswal registered an outstanding double century in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2022 final between the West Zone and the South Zone in Coimbatore on Friday, Septemer 23. Jaiswal's double century was scored in about two-and-a-half sessions that helped the West Zone in taking the driver's seat in this contest.

Despite South Zone's 57-run first innings lead on the third day of this finale, Yashasvi Jaiswal's fighting double ton ensured that it is the West Zone who will be heading into the fourth day in a commanding postion and it all depends on when exactly they plan to declare their innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal's century puts West Zone in a strong position

After wrapping up South Zone's tail very early in the morning session, the West Zone batters ensured that they made the most of a perfect Coimbatore batting track. Yashasvi along with Panchal added a 110-run opening stand. Even though wickets fell from the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained calm and focused and did not get carried away with the sudden setbacks as he kept the scoreboard ticking.

On the third day's play, it was an absolute carnage from the youngster as his unique shots made West Zone believe that they can lift this year's trophy and all the bowlers failed collectively to stop him in what looked a very good batting wicket where run-scoring was happening at ease.

The Mumbai cricketer eventually went on to register a well-deserved double ton and remained unbeaten on 209 runs off 244 deliveries. His knock included 23 fours and three maximums. Courtesy of his superlative knock, West Zone finished at a humongous total of 376/3 and would be hoping to add more runs to their tally when the play commences on the fourth day.

Meanwhile, the West Zone now enjoy a mammoth 319-run lead and it now remains to be seen what exactly would their strategy be on the penultimate day's play and how long would they intend to continue batting and then think about declaring their innings. After declaration, the West Zone still have a very good chance of forcing an outright victory.
