Cricket is all set to return to the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain as the venue has been shortlisted to host the 4th and final Test of India’s upcoming tour to West Indies. The last match that was played at this venue was back in 2014 when New Zealand toured West Indies. The last ODI played at this venue was in 2013.

The ground was given a facelift after the ICC World Cup 2007. Trinidad and Tobago’s Guardian media has reported that the venue will host the final Test with the other three to be held in Antigua’s Sir Viv Richards Stadium, St. Lucia’s Beausejour Cricket Ground and Jamaica’s Sabina Park. Interestingly, due to this schedule, Guyana will lose out on hosting a match. Guyana is known to have a good Indian population. Barbados’ Kensington Oval will also miss out on hosting a match. Queen’s Park has been described as a classic ground with breathtaking backdrops, most notably, the northern hills.

India is scheduled to tour West Indies and play 4 Test matches around June and July. West Indies Cricket Board confirmed the tour but the BCCI and WICB are yet to finalize the dates for the proposed tour. There were dark clouds hovering over the tour since West Indies team had abandoned their tour to India midway in 2014. The BCCI, citing revenue losses, slapped a big fine of $42 million on the WICB.

Recently, the Indian board announced that the fine has been waived off and the bilateral ties between India and West Indies would resume with India touring West Indies for a 4-Test series.
